Historically Black Colleges and Universities Struggle to Compete

Until the end of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and early ’70s, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) were among the only options for people of color who wanted to go to college. But today HBCUs are competing with all four-year institutions for African-American and minority students. And some of the smaller HBCUs might not survive much longer if they don’t make some big changes.
